Something About Kita & Kita Gutschein
At Expat Mgmt we support with consultation for how to prepare a family to search for a Kita spot. We also support with applying for a Kita voucher, can accompany to view Kitas, and signing the contract. The city offers a free childcare for every child; however, there are not enough spots for the number of children’s So, this is a huge stressor for newcomer families.
How does it work?
First things first, the parent(s) and child need to be registered in Berlin. Thereafter, the family has to apply for a Kita Gutschein – Voucher. This voucher will cover the tuition costs, each family pays 23 Euros for food. Though some Kitas tack on additional fees for extras like art, music, and field trips. Everyone has the right to 5 to 7 hours of childcare per day. If both parents are working, studying, or learning German full time you can get a voucher for up to 9 hours per day. Of course, if you start with 5 to 7 hours, you can extend to 9 hours later.
Before you get the Voucher, families already have to prepare for the Kita Search. This process can take several months to beyond one year. So, if you would like private childcare, there are ways in which you can get the costs at least partially covered by the government.
